A Shiny New Year

Preface: Yes, this is the first post of 2015 (!!!),  but before I start I would like to explain that I have been working on this post in bits and pieces since November. It is simply a matter of procrastination and inappropriate timing on my part that has caused this post to clinch this coveted annual title.      Do you remember that scene in The Devil Wears Prada when Miranda Priestly is in a roundtable discussion about ideas for Runway Magazine's Spring issue and, after one of the other editors suggests a spread on florals, Priestly dryly responds (like Death Valley dry) with "Florals? For spring?...Groundbreaking."      This has been my opinion on metallics for Fall/Winter. Don't get me wrong, I love metallics and I personally look forward to this time of the year because the trend is so lovingly recycled. I can be sure I will see celebrities lauded for their seasonally-appropriate use of metallics. I guess what I'm saying is that metallics have almo

Getting Red-dy for NoD

Hello my beauties,  I'm here today to speak to you about an issue near to my heart: red lipstick . No other look can compare to the longevity and universally flattering style (when executed correctly) of the red lip. While I prefer dramatic eyes with a more subtle lip, even I have to give it up for this classic.  When I heard NoD was Alice in Wonderland-themed (allegedly, because I have yet to see the official Facebook event and I think I'd be invited by now because I'm very popular), I immediately thought of all the crazy makeup in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. They won so many awards for makeup and costume (and rightfully so), it was unbelieveable. Anyways, the Queen of Hearts lips are the inspiration for this post so whether you want to mimic the look or just find the best red lip for you here are my product suggestions: P.S. I'm really bad at using GIMP and I don't have a great camera so I apologize in advance for the original photos

Makeup Application 101: A Step-by-Step Guide

Hi everyone! My name’s Alessandra - but you can call me Ali - and I am very excited for my first post. As part of the 6100 Main team, I look forward to reviewing products, answering questions, creating tutorials and guides, and sharing new looks and trends. So, I know what you're thinking: "6100 Main is a fashion blog. Why are you telling me how to put on makeup?"  Well, just like there are new clothing trends, there are always new products and looks going in and out of style. Long before we all started following fashion, however, we had to learn how to put on clothes in the first place. It sounds silly, but makeup works the same way. You have to know what you're doing before you can really start getting creative. This is how I picture everyone would dress if we didn't understand how the dressing process worked. Many students say they would wear makeup, but they don’t know where to start.  I figured sharing the order of application of makeup would b
