So as the new semester approaches us in the not-so-far future, you may have one question:

Whether you're asking this question as a returning student or wonderful freshie (or even not asking the question at all-even though you should*coughcough*) I'm here to give you some tips on what you can do to either maximize your space, fit all of your fashion items in a dorm room, or get some organization all up in your system (the whole turn over a new leaf thing you know?)

Your own style is much easier to craft with some type of organization system that works for you! Summer is a great time to start thinking about these things. Maybe even donate those pair of shoes you've had forever?

Alright alright, enough of me sounding like your mom! Let's go~!

Tip 1: Maximize Your Closet Space

The closet is one of the handiest parts of your room! It's a great way to give you more floor space and leave your drawers for other things like textbooks and snacks (oh so many snacks...). 

The first way to use your closet more effectively is to use skinny hangers!

These hangers take up way less space than the usual plastic hangers. They are more expensive than the plastic ones (Like $1-$2 more) but I truly believe they are worth it. These hangers will travel with you for years and save you plenty of headaches when your wardrobe starts to expand!

The next way to maximize your space is to use a hanging shoe organizer!

The best part about these organizers is that they can be used to store more than shoes. You can store scarfs, hats, belts, beauty products, and more in these organizers. They come in a variety of styles and you can choose the one that best fits your needs.

Note: Some of these organizers also come in over-the-door designs. Don't let this discourage you! All you need are enough command hooks (maybe even some command strips) to support the organizer and you're good! Just place the organizer on one of the walls of the closet and everything works out.

The last tip is for those who like to accessorize. A hanging jewelry organizer is another great way to use your space! They come in a variety of styles and shapes so you  have plenty of options to choose from! The smaller pockets and necklace/bracelet holders keep everything nicely in place!

I actually have this organizer in red and it barely takes up any room in my crowded closet!

Tip 2: Plastic Storage Drawers

We all know the ones. They come in several shapes, sizes, and colors and are mega handy!  I like to get the individual stackable ones because you have the freedom to change their shape according to your room layout. The large ones are great for storing your underwear, active wear, lazy day wear, bags, and anything else you can think to stuff in them.

The small three drawer containers are perfect for storing hair items, jewelry, supplies, and other small items.

If you have a lot of clothing items:

THESE BINS ARE LIFE-SAVERS. Trust me, I have a lot of clothes. You don't need a whole bunch (I have four medium sized one and they are perfect) and they save you space in your closet and dresser.

If you don't:

You don't need as many. You may not even need them at all. If you don't buy any before moving in, Target is not too far away and their prices are pretty good so don't worry about it too much! :)

Tip 3: Wall Space. Wall Space. Wall Space.

To help open up your room and effectively use your space, walls are your best friend.

If you have a shoe collection, shoe racks are great!

As with the other organizers, they come in a variety of styles and shapes. You can put the rack along the wall or even under your bed!

The next tip is command strips!
These babies work FOR EVERYTHING. You can pretty much stick anything to the walls. Command strips do come off easily and cleanly so don't be afraid to get creative!
I used the hooks to hang up my lab coat and jackets.

Tip 4: Maximize your Drawer Space

Ok guys, so this is my last tip that anyone can use!

Maximizing your drawer space is just useful all around. It makes finding things easier and gives you more space within your drawers for other things (like junk! ;P)

To maximize your space, simply "file your clothes". 

This is an example of what a file-folded drawer looks like:

Folding like this allows you to fit more into the drawer and see what you have much easier without having to dig up the entire drawer and mess up your old work!
