Get Organized!

Helloooo everyone!
So as the new semester approaches us in the not-so-far future, you may have one question:

How do you turn this:

Clueless-Paramount Studios
Into this? (Or the concept of it :3)

Tumblr
Whether you're asking this question as a returning student or wonderful freshie (or even not asking the question at all-even though you should*coughcough*) I'm here to give you some tips on what you can do to either maximize your space, fit all of your fashion items in a dorm room, or get some organization all up in your system (the whole turn over a new leaf thing you know?)

Your own style is much easier to craft with some type of organization system that works for you! Summer is a great time to start thinking about these things. Maybe even donate those pair of shoes you've had forever?

Alright alright, enough of me sounding like your mom! Let's go~!

TipsTipsTipsTips

Tip 1: Maximize Your Closet Space

The closet is one of the handiest parts of your room! It's a great way to give you more floor space and leave your drawers for other things like textbooks and snacks (oh so many snacks...).

The first way to use your closet more effectively is to use skinny hangers!

These hangers take up way less space than the usual plastic hangers. They are more expensive than the plastic ones (Like $1-$2 more) but I truly believe they are worth it. These hangers will travel with you for years and save you plenty of headaches when your wardrobe starts to expand!

Available at: Walmart, Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Amazon, Ross/TJ Maxx/Marshalls, pretty much anywhere that sells home goods

The next way to maximize your space is to use a hanging shoe organizer!

The best part about these organizers is that they can be used to store more than shoes. You can store scarfs, hats, belts, beauty products, and more in these organizers. They come in a variety of styles and you can choose the one that best fits your needs.
Note: Some of these organizers also come in over-the-door designs. Don't let this discourage you! All you need are enough command hooks (maybe even some command strips) to support the organizer and you're good! Just place the organizer on one of the walls of the closet and everything works out.
Available at: Walmart, Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Amazon, pretty much anywhere that sells home goods

The last tip is for those who like to accessorize. A hanging jewelry organizer is another great way to use your space! They come in a variety of styles and shapes so you  have plenty of options to choose from! The smaller pockets and necklace/bracelet holders keep everything nicely in place!

I actually have this organizer in red and it barely takes up any room in my crowded closet!

Available at: Walmart, Target, Amazon, Ross/TJ Maxx/Marshalls, pretty much anywhere that sells home goods.

Tip 2: Plastic Storage Drawers

We all know the ones. They come in several shapes, sizes, and colors and are mega handy!  I like to get the individual stackable ones because you have the freedom to change their shape according to your room layout. The large ones are great for storing your underwear, active wear, lazy day wear, bags, and anything else you can think to stuff in them.

The small three drawer containers are perfect for storing hair items, jewelry, supplies, and other small items.

If you have a lot of clothing items:
THESE BINS ARE LIFE-SAVERS. Trust me, I have a lot of clothes. You don't need a whole bunch (I have four medium sized one and they are perfect) and they save you space in your closet and dresser.

If you don't:
You don't need as many. You may not even need them at all. If you don't buy any before moving in, Target is not too far away and their prices are pretty good so don't worry about it too much! :)

Available at: Most Major Retailers

Tip 3: Wall Space. Wall Space. Wall Space.

To help open up your room and effectively use your space, walls are your best friend.

If you have a shoe collection, shoe racks are great!

As with the other organizers, they come in a variety of styles and shapes. You can put the rack along the wall or even under your bed!

Available at: Walmart, Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Amazon, Ross/TJ Maxx/Marshalls, pretty much anywhere that sells home goods

The next tip is command strips!
These babies work FOR EVERYTHING. You can pretty much stick anything to the walls. Command strips do come off easily and cleanly so don't be afraid to get creative!
I used the hooks to hang up my lab coat and jackets.

Here are a few example to get you started:

Tip 4: Maximize your Drawer Space

Ok guys, so this is my last tip that anyone can use!
Maximizing your drawer space is just useful all around. It makes finding things easier and gives you more space within your drawers for other things (like junk! ;P)

To maximize your space, simply "file your clothes".

This is an example of what a file-folded drawer looks like:

Folding like this allows you to fit more into the drawer and see what you have much easier without having to dig up the entire drawer and mess up your old work!

Well that's it! These are just a few suggestions that can help you become a bit more organized. You are free to implement them to whatever extent you wish~!

I hope you enjoyed the tips and if you have anymore please feel free to comment below or on our Facebook page!

The 80s seem awesome. #1 Fashion Do:  "Guys, the best rule of thumb for what you are wearing is to have one truly bold item per outfit - nothing more. Don't make your outfit a competition within itself. If you're looking to add color, try a vibrant solid color shirt with a pair of black, white, gray, or dark wash jeans. Another way to add color is through pants. Many stores are starting to carry colored denim now and the variety is endless. Don't cop-out on the color though-- get something bright and vibrant. Be sure to wear something very subtle with the pants though, and don't be too coordinated with the pants or its starts too look tacky. And don't get orange pants. Just don't." #1 Fashion Don't:  Those toe-shoe things. What the hell are p...

Beating the Summer Heat

This post is part of a Blogger Link-Up series hosted by Beauty And The Pitch (BATP), through the Houston Fashion Bloggers group. It's been about a month since the official start of summer, and I'm sure everyone has been struggling to find ways to beat the heat. BATP wanted us to share our secrets to a bearable if not fun summer, so here are five of my current summertime must-haves. 1. A solid playlist I usually have two or three summertime playlists, one for driving or walking around Montrose, one for working out, and one for chilling with a book in one hand and an iced coffee in the other. My music taste ranges from indie to hip hop, r&b to edm... in English, Korean and Vietnamese... Here's a sample of some of my favorites! 2. Cold drinks: Cafe Sua Da (Vietnamese Iced Coffee)  Ice cold water is the best way to beat the heat but sometimes you just need a boost of caffeine or crave a sugary drink that's not dehydrating like soda. Blogger's Picks: Minimal Gold Jewelry

The statement necklace trend has been going strong for a while now, but as I transition to a more neutral style, I've passed down all of my statement pieces and moved on to the next big trend: minimal gold jewelry. (Sorry friends, my little sister gets first dibs and she's taken everything...) What exactly do I consider "minimal gold jewelry"? Besides being, well, gold, the piece is tastefully structured in such a way that doesn't distract from the entire outfit, but rather enhances it. Jewelry is used to accent and compliment your outfit. While the idea behind the statement necklace was to add a pop of color or shiny-sparkly to your otherwise black and/or white or solid other color outfit, simple gold pieces streamline your outfit and highlights underrated beauty in your wrists and neckline. Again, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying statement necklaces are completely out and tacky - they're just a different style, one I'm switching out of. Rec...
