Style inspiration: Audrey Hepburn, things I glean from classic movies

Favorite place to shop: Thrift stores down Westheimer

Fashion do/don't: I honestly think people should do whatever they want. Fashion changes so much, so as long as you're comfortable with how you look, you should dress however you want.

Name: Michael Awalt College: Hanszen '16 Major: Architecture  Favorite Decade: I don't try to find inspiration from the past, but if I could pick one, it would probably be the 80s. The 80s seem awesome. #1 Fashion Do:  "Guys, the best rule of thumb for what you are wearing is to have one truly bold item per outfit - nothing more. Don't make your outfit a competition within itself. If you're looking to add color, try a vibrant solid color shirt with a pair of black, white, gray, or dark wash jeans. Another way to add color is through pants. Many stores are starting to carry colored denim now and the variety is endless. Don't cop-out on the color though-- get something bright and vibrant. Be sure to wear something very subtle with the pants though, and don't be too coordinated with the pants or its starts too look tacky. And don't get orange pants. Just don't." #1 Fashion Don't:  Those toe-shoe things. What the hell are p...

Beating the Summer Heat

This post is part of a Blogger Link-Up series hosted by Beauty And The Pitch (BATP), through the Houston Fashion Bloggers group. It's been about a month since the official start of summer, and I'm sure everyone has been struggling to find ways to beat the heat. BATP wanted us to share our secrets to a bearable if not fun summer, so here are five of my current summertime must-haves. 1. A solid playlist I usually have two or three summertime playlists, one for driving or walking around Montrose, one for working out, and one for chilling with a book in one hand and an iced coffee in the other. My music taste ranges from indie to hip hop, r&b to edm... in English, Korean and Vietnamese... Here's a sample of some of my favorites! 2. Cold drinks: Cafe Sua Da (Vietnamese Iced Coffee)  Ice cold water is the best way to beat the heat but sometimes you just need a boost of caffeine or crave a sugary drink that's not dehydrating like soda. If you haven't heard o...

Blogger's Picks: Minimal Gold Jewelry

The statement necklace trend has been going strong for a while now, but as I transition to a more neutral style, I've passed down all of my statement pieces and moved on to the next big trend: minimal gold jewelry. (Sorry friends, my little sister gets first dibs and she's taken everything...) What exactly do I consider "minimal gold jewelry"? Besides being, well, gold, the piece is tastefully structured in such a way that doesn't distract from the entire outfit, but rather enhances it. Jewelry is used to accent and compliment your outfit. While the idea behind the statement necklace was to add a pop of color or shiny-sparkly to your otherwise black and/or white or solid other color outfit, simple gold pieces streamline your outfit and highlights underrated beauty in your wrists and neckline. Again, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying statement necklaces are completely out and tacky - they're just a different style, one I'm switching out of. Rec...
